Mudskippers Pottery’s Autumn Pottery Adventure

Get ready for a cozy and creative autumn adventure! In this fun, hands-on pottery class, children will learn basic clay skills such as coiling, pinching, and shaping while creating fall-themed projects, including self-portrait gingerbread ornaments, Halloween monster pots, and more.

Students will hand-paint each of their creations, which will then be fired in a professional kiln. Along the way, students will also learn about art history and finish the session with an art show!

Before-School Chess

Provider: C&O Family Chess Center

This class welcomes students of all skill levels—from new players who are just learning the pieces to advanced students who may have experience playing in organized competitions.

Students will receive instruction and have opportunities to play with their classmates. Families will also receive information about practice opportunities and weekly tournaments outside of class.

The program focuses on having fun while learning a new skill, with a strong emphasis on sportsmanship, healthy competition, teamwork, and self-improvement.

Tennis Clinics

The MSA Tennis Program is designed for students who want to learn, exercise, and develop a lasting appreciation for tennis. Previous tennis experience is not required.

Students will learn the skills and techniques needed to develop a strong understanding of the game. Beyond the tennis court, participants will also build healthy habits, confidence, and lasting friendships.

Critter Club

See and handle incredible animals from around the world! As millipedes hug their fingers and geckos climb up their arms, students will learn about some of the most fascinating animal traits in nature.

Each week will also feature an interactive game designed to help students explore a particular animal’s lifestyle.

Safari Club

Tarantulas, scorpions, snakes, beetles, mantids, lizards, and more!

Each week, students will meet new live creatures from around the world that they can hold and learn about. Participants will begin their own transformation into young zoologists as they high-five tarantulas and fist-bump scorpions!

Coding

Provider: Panda Programmer

Panda Programmer uses a multidisciplinary approach to teach computer programming skills to children. Classes provide fun, educational, and hands-on experiences that combine a child’s interest in computers with engaging instructors and an exciting curriculum.

Students will learn how to design and create with code instead of simply playing games.

The first session runs for six weeks. Additional six-week sessions are expected to continue through the end of the school year. Sessions may be postponed or canceled if enrollment is too low.

Outdoor Soccer Clinic

Provider: Montgomery Sports Association (MSA)

MSA offers outdoor soccer clinics focused on teaching fundamental soccer skills in a fun and engaging way.

The program is open to boys and girls ages 5–12. Students will be grouped by grade level: K–2 and 3–5. Optional Saturday games may be available so participants can practice their newly acquired skills.

Required Equipment: Each participant must bring shin guards and soccer cleats.

Basketball Clinics

Provider: Montgomery Sports Association (MSA)
Location: School gym

The MSA Basketball Program is coached by former and current collegiate athletes from the University of Maryland and other universities, NCAA championship players, former NBA players, and members of MSA’s professional coaching staff.

The attentive and encouraging coaching team will help students develop basketball knowledge and skills in a supportive environment.

The program emphasizes:

• Fundamental basketball skills

• Confidence

• Teamwork

• Sportsmanship

• Fun

Skills taught include dribbling, passing, shooting, offense, defense, rebounding, and more. Small-sided games will also be played during the instructional hour.

The program is open to boys and girls in grades K–5. Students will be grouped according to age and skill level.

Equipment: MSA provides all necessary equipment, including basketballs.
